Image file names have prefix with size added after upload to website - is this affecting SEO? We rename all our image file names for SEO. When images are uploaded to our site this image is regenerated to fit the layout and the size is being appended to the new generated image. For example, I uploaded "Rose-Garden-House.jpg" and the generated image name on the site is "med_Rose-Garden-House.jpg" or "sml_Rose-Garden-House.jpg". Is this appending the size to the filename interfering with any SEO benefits to the optimized file names or is the effect on SEO negligible? 4 1 replies
SEO audit & tracking stack - recommendation please I’m working on a website re-design project for a local university. We’re consolidating multiple program landing pages into a single authoritative page per program. The goal is to improve SEO, streamline the student journey, and ensure search engines prioritize the right pages. I'm looking for an SEO tool that will help me 1. Perform an initial SEO audit to benchmark current rankings, traffic, and page performance 2. Track keyword performance and visibility after we retire and redirect old pages 3. Monitor site health (404 errors, redirect chains, broken links, etc.). 4. Measure long-term success—which means ongoing reporting and tracking of... 3 0 replies

Link Building in 2025 - Strategies for success, and what's changed? Hi - I wrote something similar last year, and it garnered some good response along with a lot of questions regarding different elements of link building and how to go about it as a business owner. The reality is that we don’t 100% know all the elements the HCU entailed or changed. But In my experience, links have become a bit more impactful from what I've seen since the HCU and early 2024 updates, and are still an incredibly powerful ranking factor. Again, the sub is full of bad... 5 0 replies
How is this going to play out? In your opinion, how is this going to play out? GPTs can generate custom articles based on what a user wants to read. For example, I can ask ChatGPT five different questions about SEO in a single prompt and get a comprehensive article covering all of them—something that would otherwise require five or more separate searches and browsing through multiple websites. Does this mean content websites are dead? Obviously, GPTs still need fresh content to generate accurate and up-to-date answers. 5 1 replies
Looking to become an AI content genius: what are peoples recommendations for educational resources? I Currently work as a head of content. I strategize blogs, I create blogs, I review blogs, I chase writers to make sure they meet deadlines. It feels like ignoring AI right now would be very dumb. Please give me your best learning resources that someone in my position should be using. I'm looking for - Best YouTube accounts to follow - Best courses to do - Best blogs to read Should I "learn" prompt engineering? If such a thing is possible. Basically all ideas welcome 5 0 replies
Do videos help with seo? I run an e-shop specializing in sports equipment, and I’m considering creating video content comparing similar products and providing in-depth reviews. Would this help with SEO? For example, if I started a YouTube channel or shared the videos on social media? Or should i just focus on backlinks? 3 1 replies
Low ranking home page compared to rest of site. My site is decades old now, but recently noticed something I am not sure about… In 2018, my home page ranked for about 400 phrases. Today it is only 3. My overall site has about 2,000 phrases in the top 100 - but it had been around 7,000 in that 2018. I just am curious why my home page would have so few compared to sub-pages. The site has high 90s CWV. It just seems strange and competitor home pages have many more phrases. Any thoughts on what to... 2 2 replies
HCU hit me hard and can't recover: what to do? Last January, I decided to remove certain pages that targeted low-volume keywords and weren’t generating much traffic. Surprisingly, my traffic skyrocketed to 250 visits per day shortly after. However, not long after that, the HCU hit my website, and my traffic has since dropped to just 20 visits per day. I found it strange that removing certain pages initially led to such a significant increase in traffic. Is this a common occurrence? Would it make sense to try this strategy again now? I do have some thin content scattered... 2 0 replies

If anything, links have become a bit more impactful from what I've seen since the HCU and early 2024 updates, and are still no doubt an incredibly powerful ranking factor. Close to throwing in the towel - Sudden 90% drop in SEO traffic and impressions! My site last week saw a sudden drop in my SERP results. It was a big site few years ago and I lost all ranking slowly over the course of a year, but put it down to never updating content. Started to see lots of recovery over the last 2 months. But no lost all recovery last week instantly. \- No warning on search console, \- nothing de-indexed, \- ran through many tools, no issues found, \- Lighthouse is giving me 90-100 on every page for SEO, best... 4 1 replies
My work is really annoying me I’m a content writer for this company and they told me to write content for the homepage. I kept it polished and concise and to the point. But my boss wants me to add unnecessary fluff and redundant stuff which makes it look spammy. He says this is the “engaging way of writing” and that I should write more like that. I tried and then he told me it’s bad writing and it’s making his job difficult going through all my content and fixing it. I honestly don’t know... 3 4 replies
Cheaper alternatives for SEMRush/Ahrefs? As I am just starting my SEO journey out, I don't think all of the features they offer as a bundle would provide value to me. Are there simpler/smaller/cheaper SEO analytics tools? 3 0 replies
Purchasing "authentic" backlinks or another way to improve rankings without spending too much time on SEO? I'm developing a time tracker that's on the market for 10+ years already. Organic search on the App Store, social networks and organic search on Google are the main sources for my (new) users. I would like to improve the latter and specifically focus on a specific set of keywords. When looking at the competition for those keywords, it's definitely clear that many backlinks have been bought. For example, I created a better article than the article that ranks #1 and sent webmasters behind the backlinks pointing to that... 2 0 replies
Deindexing and removing OLD Blogpost in Sitemap Good day! What do you do if a magazine publishing site has old posts (2008-2019), not getting traffic now because they are old, and don't have backlinks. Do we need to deindex them to save crawl budget and maybe removing them in sitemap also? Because the site has many pages and I have run the website in Screaming Frog for 12hrs it is still not finished. And how do you consider it as old as it can be deindexed? 1 0 replies
Beginner query Hello guys I hope you're doing good today. I recently started my fitness blogging website and have been uploading blogs consistently(to learn seo). December Recovery Anybody else seeing a recovery over these last few days in impressions/ranking? Pretty sharp increase on my keywords and regaining the rank I got before the spam update. Maybe the algo changed. Over the last weeks all I did was rewrite old articles and prune dead ones. 2 0 replies
How to build a team for optimal online presence? I manage a healthcare business in the USA with multiple websites for various niches. Each business has multiple locations in various cities. We’re at a point now where it would make sense financially to assemble an “online presence” team and bring all this in-house. I have good connections in my home country too with people who can do this work. On my checklist so far: - SEO expert - social media manager - copywriter Am I missing anything else? Do I need multiple SEO experts to target specific subspecialties... 1 0 replies
How useful are “linkable assets” in building links? I am in the process of getting pricing to create an infographic in my niche. This is something that I do think will add value to the body of content that is already out there. Creating the infographic will obviously cost us, so I’m interested in opinions from this sub on if this is a viable link building strategy that may increase rankings and traffic if executed correctly? Thanks in advance. 5 0 replies
