How useful are “linkable assets” in building links?

I am in the process of getting pricing to create an infographic in my niche. This is something that I do think will add value to the body of content that is already out there. Creating the infographic will obviously cost us, so I’m interested in opinions from this sub on if this is a viable link building strategy that may increase rankings and traffic if executed correctly?
