Your gf means exactly what she said. She wants emotional support. She does not want solutions. It's pretty straightforward, there's no hidden meaning. Men tend to give solutions when someone vents, which works well with other men who do the same thing. But not everyone is the same. Sometimes people just want to vent to a trusted person they feel comfortable with, and in this case that's you. So just listen to her, empathise with her. If you want, whenever she starts to vent you could ask her something like 'is this a situation where you want suggestions of solutions or do you just want me to listen and be emotionally supportive?'. And then listen to her response and respond accordingly.

I understand that we want to help our loved ones, but it's more important to actually listen to them. If she tells you what she wants and you still do something else then that will just show that you don't listen to her or don't respect what she says
