  2. Racism against India by white people is often normalized on almost every social media platform. However, if they experience even a little bit of racism from Indians, or find culture weird (on social media or face to face experiences), they quickly start complaining. What’s your take on this?

Ive lived in former British colonies in Asia for over 12 years.

This is mostly about the place I used to live in (2013-2017), as people in my current place are more accepting due in part to historical reasons. It’s because white people tend to be more indirect with their racism - it’s a subtle jab here or a veiled comment there. I still remember the first time I felt it, not outright discrimination but the prevailing attitude - it’s a very unnerving experience. The best places to see this are playgrounds (NRI that went to private school here), it’s so so so indirect but can be so cutting. This is especially true for middle/ upper middle class people, who skilled immigrants are likely to see. Outright racism is not something you will see often among the people that skilled workers come across. **This is a reason that I think international students report more racism than skilled workers.**

The local population where I lived back then (and where I live currently) is lovely - never felt or heard anything mean towards me for being darker skinned. Everyone I meet is so helpful and willing to bear with me when I make mistakes in the local languages, and I’ve never been treated differently for looking different.

Indians are in-your-face about it, it’s very direct. If they don’t like you they will make it super obvious. That’s why it’s so talked about, it’s impossible to miss.

Note: I am not defending racism. It’s awful in all forms.
