Prophecies I have noticed some interesting prophecies from Christianity and especially from Islam. They are sometimes quite spesific and while the preachers often exaggerate them a bit, some of them are indeed quite impressive. I was wondering if Hinduism has something similar? I am not talking about some very vague things like "sexual immorality will increase" or something that may have happened already at the time of the writing and retrospectively written as a prophecy (many of the Christian prophecies are like this). So interesting prophecies that came true that... 4 2 replies
How to learn about Vedanta and the Yogic tradition? Im fairly new to the topic of Hinduism and would like to dive deeper into this vast tradition. More specifically, as I mentioned above, Vedanta and the Yogic tradition interest me. Where exactly should I start to learn deeper? (Perhaps maybe the Vedas/Upanishads? Or should I look at more contemporary works on Hinduism?) All help is much appreciated. 3 1 replies
Has anyone had any experiences with Nepa Rudraksha? The reason I'm asking this is because I want to purchase a rudraksha mala from Nepa Rudraksha, who seem to sell authentic rudrakshas and also featured on BeerBiceps YT channel. I'm 29M so I'm looking for a panchamukhi 108 bead mala that can be worn around the neck but when looking at their website, they mostly have japa malas. I spoke to the company over WhatsApp, and they said they have a 108 bead japa mala that can be worn around the neck but looking online apparently japa malas... 3 2 replies
If you believe in evolution, you have to reject Kalpabedha When I mean evolution, I mean that the Earth is 4.5 billion years old, and that humans evolved from single celled organisms. You also have to believe in continental drift. If you believe all this, and I do, this is in conflict with the Puranic conception of the Kalpas For example, Vaivasvata Manu lived roughly 27 yugas ago, and if you do the math that is roughly 120 million years ago. Humans did no exist, our ancestor was a small mammal walking amongst dinosaurs. That would make it impossible... 4 15 replies
Responde to Corporal Pubishment in Manusmriti Here is the relevant verse: Manu 8.299: "bhāryā putraśca dāsaśca preṣyo bhrātrā ca saudaraḥ | prāptāparādhāstāḍyāḥ syū rajjvā veṇudalena vā || 299 ||" "The wife, son, slave, servent, (younger) uterine brother who have obtained offence (i.e.e commited offence) may be strikable by rope or by a bamboo-bark " I don’t even need to do much with this. This verse occurs in the section related to assault. This means that this verse is pertaining to **Vyavahara** not **Acara** or **Prayaschitta**. Vyaavahara injunctions is at its core not based on the... 4 6 replies
What is the minimum criteria to be a hindu? I have a question which is that what is the minimum requirements for someone to call himself a Hindu. My father died of Cancer some years ago and since then I have never prayed to any God because I believe that there is no god. The people from different religious backgrounds tell me that he is in a better place now but as much as I knew my father I know that there was no better place for him than with me and my mother. So my question is... 5 7 replies

i don't like how youngsters dont practice hinduism i (17f) myself am no better and i catch myself turning a blind eye towards my religion. by no means i mean disrespect, however it feels like it has become a matter of convince for a lot of us. we'll only recite our prayers on some festival/ occasion. apni apni shaddha hoti hai which i totally agree with. i don't mean to draw comparisons but religions like islam are made to study their religions in depth as a standard form of education. it's a mere observation. feels like we... 5 3 replies
What is the difference between individual souls and Bhagavān? According to Advaita (non-Duality) Vedānta, Atmān and Brāhman are the same. I used to accept Advaita as a fact, but I don't know for sure. Now, I believe there are individual souls which are separate from Bhagavān. I agree with Madhava about duality (Dvaita Vedānta). I think Adi Shankara, Ramanuja, and Madhava were liberated. 1 8 replies
Here is why Syamantak Mani could be the epitome of scifi material I was browsing through the legendary gemstone call [Syamantak Mani](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syamantaka) (स्यमन्तक) which is describe to be bestowed by Sun God himself. It is described as : \> *Since there are about 3,700 grains of rice in an ounce, the Syamantaka jewel was producing approximately 170 pounds (77 kg) of gold every day. It was also the source of the brilliant appearance of the sun god.* So I had [quick calculation with ChatGPT ](https://chatgpt.com/share/67a384a5-7e10-800d-8df8-cdd35b079104)about how much energy would be required to generate 77 Kg of gold per day and how could Sun... 4 1 replies
Flowers for Lord Shiva Are red flowers okay to offer to Lord Shiva? My priest made me place a red flower at the feet of the Shiva statue at the temple and I asked him if he was sure because I had read that it was not okay. He said it was fine, but there are lots of articles online saying it's not okay. Thank you. If it's not okay, can you explain why and what I can do to rectify what I did? 2 0 replies
Why are the Gods viewed as beardless? I am aware that Śiva is sometimes depicted within artwork possessing facial hair and Brahmā predominantly depicted as bearded, showing his age, and Kṛṣṇa clean-shaven representing youth. My question is about all of the Gods altogether. Is it symbolic, traditional, or an artistic choice, if not all of the above? 2 0 replies

Question on Manu and Yugas 1. So I think we know that the idea that man and chimps have a common ancestor is a well established **fact**, there's no questioning that, but then what about Manu(Svayambhuva)? If he's a mind-born son of Brahma and gave rise to the whole of humanity, then isn't that just the same concept as adam-eve? Could he be a progenitor in the sense of carrying the ability of jivas to evolve into humans as a species? 2. We know that Ramayan happened about 18 million years ago (24th Mahayug,... 3 2 replies

Can desires hinder our relationship with God? To build a beautiful relationship with God, we must desire God. We must have such deep love and longing for God, that ultimately we realize God, we become one with God. As long as we have desires for this material world, we are creating a shadow over the reality of God. If we want to overcome the desires of the material world, if we want to realize God, we must start with what is called self-realization. When we discover we are not the body, mind, ego, we are the... 1 1 replies
Kashi is so polluted, it's absolutely insane. The oldest and most important city of our civilization is Kashi, yet it is highly polluted. The ghats are littered with garbage, and drainage pipelines are directly connected to the Ganga. The entire city is filled with waste, while foreigners take pictures of it. I was extremely disappointed by the whole experience back in november when i went to kashi. I'm not comparing, but if you visit a place like Shirdi, it is a hundred times cleaner than Kashi, which is simply absurd and pathetic. 5 9 replies
I have a doubt This might be a silly question for some but it's fine I'll just ask Okay so just to make things clear, I am a Brahmin and I do my Sandyavandane regularly everyday. I am trying my level best to stay loyal to dharma, I try my level best to not swear or abuse or hurt anyone and I just want to stay focused on doing my duty. I am a big devotee of Sri Krishna as well. Now the thing is, I am a huge fan of music. I... 1 7 replies
