Backtesting Just wondering, does anyone have any recommendations on how they backtest a strategy? What is your go to platform for backtesting? And how do you do it? And what’s more important, backtesting or testing the system prospectively on a demo account? 2 3 replies
Building a positive community I’ve set up a Discord community to help traders who are serious about improving their skills—for free. Trading isn’t easy, and I know firsthand how overwhelming it can be. That’s why I want to share what I’ve learned to help others avoid the same mistakes I’ve made and grow as traders. This isn’t about selling anything or hyping things up. It’s just a space where we can focus on learning, sharing strategies, and supporting each other to become better and more consistent traders. If that sounds like something you’re... 2 0 replies
From GME to AIFU: Why We Need More Attention on "Small-Cap, Big-Potential" Companies Let's start with something. First, let’s talk about GME. GME was once a “forgotten stock” until it was elevated to the forefront by a dedicated community. It taught us that the stock market isn't just a game for Wall Street; small-cap stocks can also represent disruption and potential. But as the GME story matured, have we considered what other small-cap stocks might be the next potential breakout points? This is why I want to mention $AIFU (AIX Inc.). AIFU has a market capitalization of less than $100 million, but... 3 0 replies

Should I do a tax harvesting before year end? basically this year I've been experimenting and trading stocks. I've made more profits than I took losses. Since it is end of year I am expecting a tax form 1099 from my brokerage. I am stil holding some stocks that are massive losses. Next year It could go up, but I was thinking wouldn't it be wiser to just sell off these stocks tomorrow and then rebuy them at a lower price next year, for tax purposes? Like taking more losses right now will give me some funds but... 5 2 replies

What challenges do you face when algotrading? Looking for insights from community. Hi everyone, I'm a beginner learning about algorithmic trading and trying to understand the challenges traders face when automating their strategies. I've been exploring tools like QuantConnect and Backtrader, and I'm curious about areas where these tools might fall short or where you've experienced difficulties. A Few Questions: 1. What's the most frustrating part of automating a trading strategy (e.g., coding, backtesting, deployment)? 2. Are there any features or tools you wish existed to make the process easier or more efficient? 3. For traders who don't code much, do... 5 3 replies

Reflecting on 2024 and Exploring Opportunities For The New Year The end of the year is always a time for reflection and planning ahead. As we say goodbye to 2024 and prepare for the possibilities of 2025, small actions often set the tone for what’s to come. This year, I traded actively and made over $18,000 in the crypto market. My biggest win came from $BGB, which earned me $3,000 from it's recent surge, while I also traded other coins like $SOL, $GRASS, $PNUT, $CHILLGUY, $MANA, and various memecoins, I made good money off of them too. On the... 1 2 replies

Making a ML algorithm for trading "I am curious whether this concept has already been explored and, if not, whether it is feasible and worthwhile to pursue. The idea involves constructing a machine learning algorithm that trains a model on a large dataset of technical chart patterns, such as head and shoulders, flag breakouts, etc., to derive valuable insights. For instance, the algorithm could analyze occurrences and reveal that, say, 75% of the time, a confirmed head and shoulders pattern results in an upward movement of the underlying asset. Additionally, the system could eventually execute... 4 4 replies
Looking for a Simple Broker to Trade BTC/USDT Hi everyone, I’m looking for a broker that allows me to trade BTC/USDT and is as simple to use as Exness. I really like how Exness lets you buy lots easily, and I’d like something with a similar straightforward interface. If anyone has recommendations for a broker with these features, I’d greatly appreciate your input. Bonus points if it supports deposits/withdrawals in USDT. Thanks in advance! 2 4 replies
