The Puranas aren't to be taken TOO literally.

After some research of our scriptures, I've got some clarity which a lot of Hindus lack. The Puranas were written after the Vedas and Itihasas (Valmiki Ramayan and Mahabharat). And they do a fantastic job of portraying a singular Ishwar in different forms and personalities interconnected by a family tree. They help evoke a lot of bhakti in their readers. They wonderfully reveal vedic knowledge in the form of interesting stories. They also symbolically describe celestial phenomena that science has discovered over the years. However, taking the Puranas too...

Please help me interpret this statue (central India)

This is Shiva, isn't it? Nandi appears behind his legs, and I suppose he is holding the snake Vasuki? And Ganesha sitting below him. Isn't it unusual for Shiva to have this many arms (eight pairs!)? Does that make the second character Kartikeya? And is the wavy bundle atop his head the Ganges, or something else? https://preview.redd.it/e1yhmdlsn5ie1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5afa6f4d0d53a91ba232ae5ba27f8d04985a72e0

Family trying to manipulate me into being a Christian.

As the title says, my family are constantly trying to undermine my desire for Hinduism, make me feel stupid, gaslight me, and pretty much use any narcissistic tendency you can find to control my faith in God. I love, Krishna, Vishnu, Shakti, and all the Hindu Gods. I am deeply in love with Kali, she is so beautiful to my eyes. Every opportunity I have I share my love for Hinduism. Hinduism is so beautiful to me. As an artist, I take a great appreciation in beauty, Hinduism is...

Cried in front of Maa Kali

I visited Kolkata after 9-10 yrs today. The first time I visited I was pretty young(13-14yrs old). In the morning I visited Dakshineshwar Kaali Mandir and later in the evening visited Kaali Ghat. And as soon as I saw her, I was kind of mesmerised and kept looking at her for good 15 secs. And then I realised I was crying actual tears??? I don’t even consider myself to be very spiritual or anything of the sorts. Not pretty sure what happened. I just couldn’t stop crying for a...

    Hindu funeral prayer

Can anyone help to recommend a Hindu prayer translated into English to be read at a funeral please. A relative of mine who has passed, was a Hindu although had become westernised living in the UK, his family would like to honour his religion with a Hindu prayer at his funeral. We’ve looked online but there seems to be lots of different translations of the same prayers so not sure which is right and what would be the most appropriate to read at a funeral. Has anyone had a...
