Need help with suggestion from locals

I am from Mumbai and looking at a trip to Gujarat. I will be flying from Mumbai to any of the airports and flying back as well. I am not sure of the best means of commute within the state. Primarily want to go to Dwarikadhish and wish to visit some Gujarat cities/places(I think Ahmedabad will be a nice place: Sabarmati river front, Manek chowk etc). I can make the trip of 3-5 days. Would it be good to fly to Jamnagar and then go to Dwarka via taxi....

I have seen many mentions of the term used in the title in folk songs, one example would be "કહો તો ગોરી રે, હાલારી હાથીડાં મંગાવી દઉં. હાથીડાનો વ્હોરનાર રે, કાનો રમે છે મારી કેડમાં!" And I know this much that હાલાર was historical name for the region around modern day Jamnagar city. My question is whether the region had a reputation of domesticating elephants, or it was just a case of વર્ણાનુપ્રાસ.
