Its one of the most safest Cities specially for women. There are hooligans from.nearby villages roaming in nights but they don't trouble others specially family guys. They will just show off their big cars in order to impress girls in front of girls colleges. In a recent survey around 99% of women feel happy in Chandigarh. (obviously better than all other places)

Its the cleanest city in India & unlike other North Indian cities it has got quality crowd. If you know Hindi then you can easily understand Punjabi as well. Like Southern states Punjabi people do hate Hindi & prefer English and Punjabi, but In Chandigarh almost everyone speaks English or Hindi.

Its one of the cheapest city for survival & living a quality life. My friends earning 30-40k pm are also living comfortably but they have taken flats in nearby areas as rents in outside areas are really cheap as compared to main sectors.

Coming from South you will witness even more.greenery in Chandigarh than many of the tier 2 & 3 cities. And traffic rules are the strictest than any other city. No Seatbelt, light jumping, no helmet, overspeeding & driving on cycle path(yes there is separate road of cycles) can cost you too much fine.

Weather - Yes In summers its extreme summer & In winters its extreme chilling & in spring its extremely pleasant. You will need Ac in summers & heaters in Winter. Summers are still managable but for winters you have to buy heavy clothes. And you can witness snowfall just 80-90kms away from Chandigarh which you can never experience in south. Quality of water & milk is very high here. You get water from cleaner rivers, not groundwater.

There are plenty of South Indian restaurants available in City & you might not get all the dishes like iddiyapam or andhra meal etc but they do full justice with all the rest of the Southern dishes. But remember Southern restaurants are considered as luxury restaurants here, so price is high if you eat outside.

I doubt once you lived in Chandigarh, you will ever go back. My friends from kerala & tamilnadu are settled here permanently. My suggestion to you is to find job for wife in Chandigarh as well. As the cost of living in entire country has been raised. But there are lot of ways to save expenditure in Chandigarh as you can buy groceries durung night time from weekly vegetables markets. And if you don't have car you must have to keep an activa with you.
