Finder Problem Ever since updating my 2020 MacBook Air to the newest OS, Finder can no longer retrieve my documents UNLESS I have recently opened them. For example, if a document is called “Smith et al” and I type that in, Finder will return no results. However, if I manually find “Smith et al”, open it, close it, and then type it into Finder, it will appear. I have followed a number of guides on rebooting Finder and performing other simple tasks to no avail. Anybody know what else I can... 5 1 replies
Is Picture-in-Picture with transparency possible? I'm looking for a way to make Safari's Picture-in-Picture (PiP) transparent when watching YouTube videos. I'd like to partially see the content of applications running behind the PiP window. * Are there any extensions that enable PiP transparency? * Do alternative browsers offer this functionality? * If this isn't technically possible, what are the limitations preventing it? 2 2 replies

Wierd behaviour with my main screen - MacOS Sequoia Hey guys, Currently using my MacStudio M2 Max on MacOS Sequoia. Since recently, I have this showing all the time. I never changed anything regarding monitor options and am using only one screen (which is a Panasonic TV). I find the blue thing always in the menu bar to be distracting and annoying, and I cannot turn it of : "Ne plus étendre" (French) does nothing when selected. Does anyone have a guess ? I'd really like to get rid of that, it's quite useless and stupid as I'm... 3 0 replies

Dial iPhone from Mac without going through FaceTime -- possible? I would like to be able to place an outgoing call on my iPhone (i.e., dial a number) from my Mac. Ultimately, the idea is to integrate this into a custom URI handler and/or AppleScript. I know I can set up FaceTime to use my iPhone to handle tel: links. However, while that uses the iPhone to make the call, the call itself goes through my Mac -- and I also have to manually select "OK" to make the call in the notification window that pops up. Bonus points... 3 1 replies
Mac Mini M2 unable to control display without mirroring the same display LG 49WL95C-W Hello. I bought a 49WL95C-W from LG about a year ago for my mac mini M2. Now running MacOS 14.6.1 still having the same problem: the Display has a HDMI and a Type C DP . when i connect the HDMI alone, i get resolution up to 3840x1080, which is not crispy and looks really really bad. when using the Typ C Port, i get the maximum resolution of 5K x 1440P BUT I can't control the display, for example: the button on the display won't turn it on,... 1 0 replies
Replacing chromecast with mac mini questions. I would like to change my chromecast to something else with more features (i could buy an apple tv or a nvidea shield) but i have some mac mini’s left what i can use. Best would be to make it so that i can use the mac with a siri remote but i would want it so that i don’t need a mouse to controll the mac but use the remote with mapped arrow keys to select elements of osx instead. Maybe use the launchpad with shortcuts for things... 2 1 replies

Homeserver using Macbook M2. Guys, I have a MacBook that has a broken screen, so I decided that instead of spending an arm on a screen replacement I thought, turning him into a home server would be nice. How can I do that? Can I use MacOS, or is it better to install some Linux system, somehow, to make it better? My goal is to host my website, host an online game project that I'll build, and soon, I'll write my own webserver in C. So I think that installing Linux would be... 1 0 replies
Anyone use Firefox? When the cursor goes to the top it pulls down the whole address bar making it incredibly annoying when your cursor overshoots a tab. I want to leave Chrome but this is stopping me. I check back every few months hoping for a work around. Has anyone found one? Thanks. 3 4 replies
Backup of Time Machine Backup? Hi, I had a Time Machine backup of my Macbook that I didn't want to continue to update (There were some files that I couldn't successfully recover) and I bought a new hard drive to use as a Time Machine. There were some old files on there that I didn't want Time Machine to potentially wipe out (From one year before the last backup). Can I just link the new hard drive as a new Time Machine and in the future I could always connect the old drive and... 5 1 replies
One of Safari's best features is also the one that's least discussed Security code autofill. This shit is such a godsend, seriously. Every website that's not compatible (there are a few) drive me nuts. We got so much of this stuff nowadays, we forget how convenient it is to receive, copy, paste and delete codes in one or two clicks. 1 4 replies

Mac connect to Internet, can’t use browser Hey guys, So I think my Mac is just slowly dying at this point but essentially my internet is working, I can connect on other devices. I’ve tried hotspotting my Mac from my phone and that didn’t work. I’ve quit and reopened the browsers and restarted my Mac a million times (and tbh my Mac is having a lot of trouble getting past the login screen these days, no idea why) I’ve tried two different browsers (safari and chrome) and neither work. It’s a MacBook Pro 2017/2019 I think... 3 0 replies
