Advice for SSD recovery/repair

I have a 1TB LaCie external SDD that formerly served as a Time Machine backup volume. After removing it from the Time Machine Settings menu list of available destinations, the device no longer mounts (macOS 15.3, MacBook Pro M1). It's visible in the device tree (at the Thunderbolt port where it's plugged in) via General->About->System Report, but does not show up with \`disktutil list\` in the Terminal or when using Disk Utility in regular or Recovery mode. When plugged in, the device's activity light goes on for several minutes...

Anybody else having this issue? My MacBook will ask me for my password at least ones a month, and what makes it so annoying is that it will immediately pop back up again after I hit close. It is always in the way and I have to wait till I get home to check my password to make it go.

macos Sequoia : is there a way to have widget always on display

if i click on the date on top right screen, my widgets appears on right part of the screen, but as soon as i click on desktop , widgets disappears from the screen. Thanks!

Incredibly Frustrating Display Issue in macOS Sequoia 15.3

Hey all, I'm running into possibly the weirdest, most frustrating bug I've ever encountered with a computer, let alone a MacBook. Reminders in calendar

I use the Reminders App for recurring reminders because they are so easy to create by voice. However, I don’t want these items to be cluttering up my calendar views. Yet I can’t find a way to turn them off in Apple Calendar or reminders settings…

Which is better? 2017 MacBook Air vs late 2012 iMac

iMac late 2012 2.7 ghz quad core or a macbook air 2017 1.8 ghz dual core i5 Both have ssds and are using open core with sequoia. I would assume the iMac has more power but it is 5 years older.

How to stop safari google from automatically scrolling down when zooming into images?

Not sure if this is the correct subreddit to ask this in but how do I stop google from automatically scrolling down when I zoom into pictures on images. It only happens on the safari browser. Zooming works fine on chrome.

I can use the Apple USB-C to Digital AV Multiport Adapter to listen to Apple Music from my MacBook Air M2, does it work? I would like to connect the HDMI output to a Denon AV receiver to be able to listen to music in Hi-Res. But I'm not sure if the Mac Air outputs Hi-Res music from the Type-C port

Can’t install steam?

Got an old Mac book air (2017) running on High Sierra (not enough space to even update it, even after deleting everything apparently) and I’m trying to reinstall steam. I had it before and deleted it ages ago. Now I’m trying to reinstall it and when trying to run the installer I got from Steams website it says “steam.dmg” is damaged and can’t be opened. Can’t login to APP Store to update my mac from Yosemite to Monterey

Hi guys, yesterday I decided to format my old Macbook Air since it had no space left, I wanted a fresh start. Now it’s back to OsX 10.10 Yosemite and I want to update it to monterey, but everytime I try to login to the app store and I enter my mail and password it wont work. Any suggestion on how I can work this through? Is there a way to download monterey (or big sur) without the app store?

Conveniently and selectively close apps/instances from the top bar of Mission Control

When you open mission control (three finger swipe up), and you have a lot of browser instances open (e.g. 10+), it would be great to have a quick way to close the ones you don't need. You *could* \- Quit the browser entirely, closing all instances, even the ones you're still using (e.g via force quit) \- Close them one by one by clicking on them, waiting the few hundred milliseconds macOS makes you wait for some reason, then command + shift + w to close it, then repeat...

Finder copy/move etc is pretty crap

I have many complaints about it, but how do they justify it being so crap, I start half a dozen copies before bed, I wake up and one is still sitting there saying there was an error, no info, just an error code So firstly, why not tell me the name of the file being copied at time of failure or directory or anything, how do i know which of the copies failed without backtracking to work out what i even was copying at the time.. just have to...
