Eating non veg as a Krishna devotee girl

I’ve been maintaining my veg diet for about a year now but sometimes I kinda break it when I visit my family from uni ( I live away from family for uni), because they eat non veg and only give me non veg food. I’ve denied several times and tried telling them Krishna’s teachings and how it helped me and to let me follow my own path but they don’t listen and they start yelling and arguing with me. Recently I started getting cravings and ate more non veg...

    Talas and Capitalists

I’ve been reading about talas and lokas. The more I read, the more it seems like many Americans who support Trump metaphorically align with many of the traits of the talas. Am I way off here? It seems that greed and capitalism, materialism, are all traits of the lower realms. If we are stuck between realms, are these people like an anchor to the lower realms. Do I sound ridiculous? I’m new to this. Sensory pleasures, material gains, are these remnants of the lower realms that are still present...

    Are there modern day Ganapatyas?

For those who don't know, Ganapatyas are those who worship Ganapati (Ganesha) as the main/only deity. In the past, it used to be a pretty big denomination but since has fallen off in popularity. My question is if there are any modern-day Hindus who would qualify as Ganapatyas.

    Ishta Devata

I recently had my birth chart analyzed and was surprised to find that my Ishta Devata, according to the chart, differs from the deity I have always felt a strong connection with. Does this mean I should discontinue my current Sadhana?

My American family, my Hindu family

As the post says, I will talk about my family. My American family. Everyone in America is my family, the ugly the beautiful, the wicked the righteous. Who cares, if you’re an American you’re part of my family. Since I’m an American, my ancestors shared this country with your ancestors, your Gods were once my Gods, your friends were once my friends. Slavery, we went through that. The civil war, that too. The Declaration of Independence. Woman’s rights. Etc. My neighbor is my friend, the person who works at...

    How to practice Bhakti yoga?

I’m new to Bhakti yoga and looking for advice from other Bhakti yogis. Specifically on these questions: 1. Can I pray and worship a guru (in human form)? If I feel a deep connection for a long time? 2. How do I practice surrendering my ego to the guru? 3. Which Bhakti practices to cultivate surrender and devotion are recommended? Thank you

The Structure of the Vedas. Must Read

Generally, religion is based one single authorities book. That is the Koran for the Muslims, the Bible for the Christians, the Granth Sahib for the SIkhs, etc. These are all great literatures which deserve extensive study. But for the Hindus, it is a very odd case. The structures of our scriptures are exceedingly complicated. Our authoritative scriptures are the Vedas, but infact it is a mistake to call it scripture, because these Vedas were not originally written down, and were instead passed orally. So many complications are there regarding...

Need guidance on Shivanga Sadhana initiation (in description)

Hello, I am planning to do the Shivanga Sadhana (the one guided by Sadhguru) and I want to initiate without the Sadhana kit since there is not enough time left to order anything, so I have the following questions: 1. Vibhuti - can I get vibhuti from any temple, or any Shiva temple? I heard it’s not recommended to accept Vibhuti from anyone in temples due to the risk of occult practices, therefore need guidance on where to get Vibhuti. 2. Black cloth to tie around arm - recommended...

Legacy of our ancestors and us

The movie chaava has brought a lot of awareness among the people about the actual history about hindu kings who were erased from history. Our ancestors would chose torture and death and yet never even consider converting. We havent even inherited 0.01% of out ancestors legacy. Nowadays kids will go to bakrid, eid and iftar parties for food, whereas out ancestors would rather walk into fire. Hindus convert for 5kg of rice, whereas hindu women used to walk into fire than be touched by invaders. We celebrate Christmas of...
