Experiences with Maha Periyava: On the Path of Righteousness This is from the twitter account of Sri Alok Jagwat @AlokJagawat Very inspirational hence posting here #Mahaperiava Experiences with Maha Periyava: On the Path of Righteousness Sri Maha Periyava was camping at Kalavai. One morning an advocate from Thanjavur came for darshan by car. There was a lot of fanfare. His wife wore the saree in the traditional manner, the sons, dhoti and upper cloth, the gentleman himself a dhoti in a traditional manner, upper cloth and a gem studded gold chain around his neck. He held a large... 5 0 replies
rituals, symbols and stories vs philosophy and spirit warning: if you're sensitive to possible unorthodox ideas within Hinduism you can skip this post. I just want people who can engage with ideas without needing to accept them. I came across a realisation the other day and I was wanted to get second opinions. I've had a long-standing interest in philosophy and would read up a lot on Hindu and Buddhist philosophy too, although admittedly, I'm not particularly religious in the typical sense. I found the story of Nachiketa in the Katha Upanishad particularly fascinating and wanted to... 3 2 replies

Paranormal experiences during vrat I've done 16 Somvar vrat a few times, over the past 4 years. The thing I've been praying for, still hasn't happened. I'm planning to start the next one, in a few days. Whenever I do the vrat, I get nightmares on and around Mondays. As my pooja time gets closer in the evening, my anger starts going up. I used to get sleep paralysis attacks on every Sunday and Monday, during the vrat, but they stopped when I started reciting kavacha. Nothing scary happens during the day but... 2 3 replies

Good books to start with? I only speak English and a little bit of German, no Sanskrit or Indian scripts, so I'm looking for something that isn't exact but at least gets the same message across as the original. Also, I've heard the books are somewhat seperated into three categories, although I forget them. Anyway, if you would could you say which category the book is in? Thanks 3 0 replies
Is this Real? So my parents bought me this necklace or whatever it's called when we traveled to India in 2011. Are these real rudraksh beads? I honestly can't tell. What even is the reason for owning this necklace? My apologies for the bad photos🫠. 2 9 replies
Dance with me The title of this post, “dance with me.” My poetry. Love. Cliche perhaps? No, I don’t suppose so. My love, selfish? I don’t think so. Who deserves love? You there? Do you deserve love? Perhaps not… is that what you think? Dance with me? Please?… Why? Well, because I love you. Who deserves love? You there! Yes you! The person I’m looking at🤭. Do you deserve it? Maybe… I can’t tell you how much I love you… love? A deceit, a lie, a con! Maybe. Trust me… When I... 5 0 replies

Question about shipping a small brass Shiva statue. I sold a smaller sized Shiva figure that'd I'd found at a thrift store. Any particular things I should avoid when shipping it? I'm not Hindu and usually sell things I'm more knowledgeable of...paper and bubble wrapping it is the plan but I figured I'd ask just to make sure I could avoid a simple faux pas of a custom. Thanks in advance. 1 4 replies
Non Veg in Hinduism Let's not deny the fact or say it's mixing from invaders, Meat consumption has been mentioned in our texts from Veda, Mahabharata to Ramayan. I don't find issue thet humans consume it, but I can't understand why it is mentioned in our texts to offer it to god's, Surely bhagwan doesn't need us to kill animals for him, and we also find some verses saying we shouldn't kill animals, so why is there two versions where one says not to kill animals but many verses say to offer them... 3 18 replies
