It’s become like an informal ‘grease the wheels’ system that’s deeply woven into daily life. The bureaucracy’s complex processes and delays have made people see bribes as a practical ‘shortcut’ to get things done. And honestly, sometimes it’s not even about speeding things up - your work simply won’t move forward at all unless you pay up.

I actually have a theory about this based on traffic cops - their relatively low salaries compared to other countries might explain why small bribes are so common. But that’s just one small piece of a much bigger puzzle.

The tricky part is how this has created a cycle - because everyone expects bribes might be needed, they factor it in as an unofficial ‘processing fee.’ And because it’s become so normalized, the system rarely changes. Pretty messed up when you think about it.
