to be honest, my parents didn't beat the shit out of me or anything growing up but I have had my fair share of belts and maar (esp from dad). in retrospect, I think it did help in me not becoming a brat and in some cases not taking bad decisions (it's a whole diff story why I was beaten with belt once).

My advice is not to copy paste readymade material from books, museums etc because this becomes very boring - especially for the poor teacher. By all means go through these resources but use them as a guide and to provide frameworks for thinking about her own work.

I suggest that she should do her project related to either her family or her village/ town ward. Interview different family/ ward members. Take photos of them and record their voices. Ask them for their photos. The older members will at least have their wedding photos. Take photographs of their houses and localities and compare them with the older ones. Ask the people to compare life during their youth with now. For anyone who is over 50 years old life has changed tremendously so there'll be a huge amount of material to tap if one does the project sincerely.

Politics and popularity. The underprivileged and uneducated are the majority and in a democracy they decide who comes and stays in power. The rich and powerful need their agents to stay in power and will do anything they can to relate to the mass public and form even an iota of connection with them, regardless of their actual feelings.

And some actually do have their own beliefs.
