I don't know how to react to this. My Sylheti paternal grandfather came to Shillong refugee camp in 1949. Rather than residing there, they went to Digboi since he was an engineer back then and ever since we have settled in Tinsukia. I have very few relatives down in Valley region and I have no idea how exactly Sylheti is apart, linguistically or culturally. My mom is Vaishnav manipuri meitei but also from Dhaka but continued her manipuri culture. So both my paternal and maternal great grandparents were born in Sylhet and Dhaka, respectively but unfortunately due to Hindu persecution they came here during the 40s. I have some idea about Sylheti culture but being born and brought up in a mix culture, I consider myself an Assamese by culture, by birth. Even though I live mostly in Delhi due to my job, my heart lies here. My eyes swell up when I hear a borgeet in Gurgaon, smile the biggest when I land here, miss my home when i smell the kaji nemu. I have read many assamese books but at the same time I listen to Rabindranath tagore's songs, but not the Tollywood stuff.

I hope maybe in future, we move on from this language fight and work together to make our land the best it can be.
