Advice for managing team of women in India

Hey all, I’m an American guy, and I recently started managing a small team that works in India a few months ago. They are all women. I think things are going fine, but I sense 3 challenges so far. The first being I have never been to India, and I don’t really know the culture, so I am not as familiar with challenges that might be rooted in such. Second, they are all women, so I am probably not as aware of their unique challenges. Lastly, I’m remote so...

Is it true that India still uses asbestos in construction?

I read this and found it pretty incredulous since asbestos is considered very dangerous in the US. I never felt so helpless before like this being Indian, have about you?

China is progressing by leaps and bounds, while in India, we continue to grapple with social issues like these: "Dalit groom rides horse under tight police cover in Ajmer to protect him from upper-caste locals" or "BJP announces ₹1,000 per month for SC/ST students in Delhi." Meanwhile, China's DeepSeek competes against America's ChatGPT and Gemini, whereas Indian startups are primarily focused on mobile apps designed to deliver goods within minutes. These startups thrive on the shoulders of the poor, who work tirelessly just to feed their families twice a...

What to do when someone rings you doorbell at 4:30 am?

I woke up with constant barking of a stray dogs. Which is not that uncommon. Until now, because my society has a lot of houses and apartment buildings, I used to go out and scare the dogs away no matter what time it was because I believed no one would dare committ a crime when help was just a shout away. Idk. This is a safe society overall. So I did not wear my specs. Grabbed and coat and climbed down the stairs. I was only a couple of...

China released Deepseek AI and Silicon Valley is fretting about it. Where do India stand in this process?

We should be scared that our neighboring country is becoming an equal to USA. Deepseek is all in house made , from their engineers who didn't go abroad for education. While we are here spending ridiculous amount of money and time playing dirty politics, demolishing and rebuilding temples, giving plenty of resources to so called "spiritual gurus" , blissfully being ignorant about future of India...other countries have different vision. At least in 1960's , villages were self sustained and hardly depended on cities. Look where we are now as...

Can India still catch up with China and compete against them toe-to-toe?

Ten years back when I read "The White Tiger (by Aravind Adiga)", I remember reading about how the future belongs to brown man (Indian) and yellow man (Chinese). It was the common sentiment at that time. Despite India lagging behind China, the general sentiment was that the difference is not that big and that we would soon catch up with them. Do you think India can still catch up with China?

Why do people in India who don't like cricket call it boring/a sport for lazy people?

It's funny how some of it also comes from people who ONLY watch european football and they go like haha no cricketer would survive playing 90 minutes.I mean no footballer could bowl 140 kph for 15 overs in a test match day.Facing 140kph is frightening too and if it's swinging in the air and off the pitch it's double trouble I remembered there was a North East Indian guy who was gloating about football and cricket being a shit sport I invited him for a club game and gave...

Why do more people seem to poop more than once a day nowadays?

I’ve noticed a shift in the past 15-20 years where it seems like more people poop at least twice a day, whereas years ago, going once a day was more typical. I’m curious, what do you think has changed? Is it our diets, lifestyle habits, or something else entirely? Anyone else noticed this trend in their own circles?

What does an average North Indian eat for lunch and Dinner?

its something i always wanted to know from an average north indian people themselves. when i search in internet, its says things like roti, dal and other pulse dishes. This was suprising to me because i thought rice is something universally consumed among all indians irrespective of state. Here in my state, a usual afternoon meal would be rice with liquid stew(sambar, rasam, etc..) + vegetable fries or a non veg curry/fry + rice. wheat based rotis and dals are usually taken as breakfast and sometimes during dinner. So...
