So i need to learn how to deal with the fact that I am not my mother’s first priority. Most of her day is spent talking with her sisters and other relatives on phone. She does not have a good relationship with my father and now it seems like she doesn’t care about us too. She will talk to me but only when... 5 9 replies

Why do Indians expect India to become developed so quickly? The Western advanced economies look nice today because they spent HUNDREDS of years of brutal industrialisation where workers slaved in factories with no rights, along with colonial empires to exploit resources. Indian industrialisation and fast growth only really started after 1991 reforms. Given that we had 10% literacy and life expectancy of 30 in the 1950s, I think we have done reasonably well. 5 0 replies
Why are all the questions on this subreddit so loaded? Is this 'Ask India' or just 'Indians Ranting'? Why is marriage and education considered so important? Why is it that every kid once they grow up get this pressure of getting married and having some sort of education because somehow education is tied with reputation and social status. If your broke then nobody will respect you. But if you have money then some people will end up calling you arrogant and show off. And marriage is like constantly being reminded oh your this old look at your cousins and friends settling down. Not only do they want you to get married but they also expect... 3 12 replies

I can't believe I share this country with some of these men who are in our country . Is it normal for store staff in India to follow me around? I'm currently in India, and every time I enter a store (especially international clothing brands), one or two salespeople follow me around, staying just a meter behind me the whole time. Even when I politely say, *"I'm just looking, I'll ask if I need help,"* they don't back off. Is this just how customer service works here? Or is it only for foreigners? It honestly feels overwhelming, and I've left stores in a hurry (even when I saw things I wanted) because I felt too uncomfortable. It was really ruining my... 3 0 replies

How unmarried men are perceived and treated in society? Okay, I'll be straight up—I don’t want to get married. I’m not attracted to anyone, neither men nor women, and I don’t feel any attachment in relationships. Honestly, I find them burdensome and anxiety-inducing. I’ve managed to avoid most of the drama and pressure from relatives and friends, but now that I’m at the “prime age” for marriage according to the people around me , the pressure’s ramping up—even my parents are getting on my case. Not that it bothers me much; I’ve got thick skin and can handle... 1 18 replies

Which is a greater blessing: having loving parents or having rich parents? I've always had this thought: rich parents are extremely loving and caring, which is why they worked hard to become rich and successful—so their kids can enjoy their lives. After realised even middle class parents are also loving and caring. 1 36 replies

I(23M) think I wanna get serious with my cousin(21F) and hope to get married too. So first off, before anybody starts biting my head off by frowning upon the cousin thing, here's how she's related to me. She's my paternal grandmother's brother's daughter's daughter.
