Also it's a bit on extremes though. Mumbai is the biggest tier 1 city and pune is either the smallest/second smallest tier 1 city along with ahmedabad or tbh you can classify them as the biggest tier -2 cities also.

Next state to have this would be tamil nadu imo. Chennai tier1 and coimbatore eventually.

Delhi is delhi. There is no other cities there apart from ncr forming into an amalgamation.

West Bengal ain't making another tier 1 city.

Same goes for telangana. Especially since states split.

Karnataka has decent chance with mangalore - port city, educational hub etc, if they can get some IT going there, then definitely in the future. Mysore will remain a very big tier2 oldschool city like nagpur is in Maharashtra

Gujarat has ahmedabad as tier 1 or barely tier 1. Facilities and infra is top notch but to be tier 1 you gotta be culturally forward, that will be a limiting factor. People aren't clamouring to move to Ahmedabad. Surat will be tier 2. Gujarat could end up having multiple tier 2 cities that are elite without a behemoth of a tier 1 city.

Punjab Haryana has chandigarh and the remaining will remain tier 2. Like amritsar, ludhiana etc.

Kerala will have multiple tier 2 cities like gujarat. The only potential tier 1 is kochi but same problem as mumbai - land issue and government will have to really push the IT scene for like 15 years to even come close.

Maharashtra and maybe TN looks like will be the only places with 2 tier 1 cities in 10 years..
