Hello. Fellow filmmaker here, I’ll throw a little light on this. Although my parents are progressive and never had any issues, I’ve seen this thing quite a lot in my peer group.

1. The minute money starts reflecting in your bank account, all these discussions mostly stop. I agree it takes quite a bit of time to make a decent income out of this. I’ve been at it since many years and only seeing the fruits right now.
2. If you talk in terms of career, it doesn’t go well most of the time. Lots of uncertainty, regardless of how much ever talent you have. Be sure to mentally commit first and then communicate to your parents that it takes time(don’t mention how much).

Just my 2 cents. Also, please please understand that this is a super long game. It takes a toll on your mental health. Since you’ve mentioned writing, the probability is extremely low to make screenwriting into a living. Having editing, color grading, sound design etc as an additional competency helps you pay the bills. After doing all this, it is still a game of luck.

Group A Central Government employee here. Assuming you still have the age and could crack the job overcoming all the competition, Govt job is a thankless job. Govt employees are overworked, under staffed and frustrated with mediocre wages. There is no scope for growth. If you manage a group B post, you will most likely be in that rank for a major portion of your career in spite of clearing the departmental exams. You wont have any esops/ bonuses/ hikes. You will be served with memos when your work doesnt not meet the expectations and your APAR gets affected but if you put your soul into work it will not be recognized.

The perks are overrated. Maybe you will be able to get an old flat as an accommodation if there is a vacancy at the cost of your HRA. Depending on the department ,you will be getting other perks but nothing can match what you can get with a private salary. I have also worked private, the only advantage I have here is As long as I do my job, I am not answerable to anyone. I dont have to convince some random client whom I never met. No unscheduled calls at the odd hours. Freedom to take the decisions within the scope of authority available.

P.S. Nowadays the govt is pushing regular certification courses through Karma Yogi portal on latest aspects. In govt, nobody may force you to be upgraded but you are expected to be updated of all the Acts/rules and current affairs about your job. Without this knowledge, nobody would take you seriously and you would become a clown in front of your juniors, seniors and outsiders.
