Our problem is lack of respect for others. No I don’t mean the foreigner worship shit. I mean just normal person-to-person respect and consideration for others. We are, as a country and generation, incredibly selfish. Which is why we don’t respect others’ time, we don’t follow queues, we throw garbage on the streets and we elect people with the same kind of values (or lack of them). While most developed democracies, at least at some point in history, were built around selflessness and consideration for others. Look at a country like Japan, where people keep not only their homes clean but also the streets around it. -

Superstar Rajnikanth about the importance of English in this modern world. Learning another Indian langauge which has no value in academics or in the corporate world is a waste of time and energy. I wonder why the policy makers can't understand this very basic thing.
Russia, China, Korea, Japan, Germany, Brazil, France, Mexico, Italy, Poland, Spain, Vietnam, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Sweden, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and most European, Asian, and Latin American countries have built their economies primarily around their respective mother tongues.
These nations have focused on establishing a strong economic foundation centered on manufacturing and agricultural commodities, which do not require proficiency in the English language. Some of these countries have emerged as global export powerhouses, including Japan, China, Korea, and Germany.
In India, 62% of the population (approximately 750 million speakers) communicate in Hindustani (a blend of Hindi and Urdu), whether as a primary, secondary, or tertiary language. Hindustani is the third most widely spoken language worldwide and has become a symbol of India's growing soft power on the global stage.
This language serves as a crucial link for many Indians and has gained popularity organically due to its adaptability in absorbing words from other Indian and foreign languages. This phenomenon is analogous to how Jewish communities worldwide adopted Hebrew, simplifying and modernizing it for contemporary use. Today, Hebrew functions as the common language for Israeli Jews from various ethnic backgrounds, including Ashkenazi and Mizrahi.
In contrast, English is spoken by only 10.9% of the Indian population (around 129 million), with most speakers being secondary or tertiary users. Bengali and Marathi speakers also represent a similar demographic. English is primarily used by a small elite group in the IT/BPO sectors and the broader services industry, which constitutes a minuscule percentage of the overall workforce and population. However, their economic impact is significant due to their size and productivity, which has led to them monopolizing attention and resources.
This has resulted in a lopsided economic model, where a small fraction of the population enjoys high-paying jobs, while the majority remains stuck in low-paying, unproductive positions. India possesses a substantial workforce that requires well-paying manufacturing jobs, which do not depend on English but rather on skilled trade capabilities.
Consumption accounts for 60% of the Indian economy, and to cater to this need, proficiency in English is not a prerequisite. This requirement disenfranchises a large portion of the population from domestic job opportunities because they do not speak a language that is not native to their region, amounting to a form of social injustice.
Moreover, imposing a non-native language can disconnect many Indians from their heritage and cultural roots. In school, children learn new concepts in their native language rather than in a foreign tongue. English is not the mother tongue for nearly 99% of Indians.
In vernacular states, priority should be given to regional languages, with Hindi serving as a link language for communication among non-vernacular Indians. English should act as our link language with the global community and for sectors of the economy focused on providing international services. -
Is sagor really a kumaoni word?
It is difficult to tell the exact meaning of सगोर/सवर in hindi or english but as per my knowledge the Closest Meaning would be Talent, skill, or proficiency (प्रतिभा / कौशल)
The usage can be as:
Sentence: कुछ कामक सवर नि ते पर। (My mum says this a lot to me 😅)
Meaning (in English): You don’t have any talent for any work.
Standard Hindi Equivalent: तुम्हें किसी काम में कोई प्रतिभा नहीं है।
Antonym would be: कुसवर/कुसगोर -
