As for the firewall in macOS, it’s an ‘application’ firewall not a ‘network’ firewall so it functions differently than what you may be familiar with. It doesn’t block access based on network addresses and port numbers its purpose is to block access based on what application is requesting the access.

As for whether you should enable it or not. If your computer connects to the internet, whether from the relative safety of your home network or from an unsecured public one then yes, you should enable the firewall.

The information that you need in order to determine any conclusions from anything is an individual keyword ranking (SERP) chart for each keyword.

What this looks like:

\- keyword 1 (chart)

\- keyword 2 (chart)

\- ...

\- keyword n (chart)


From there, you look at what is happening with each keyword. How did the drop in rank happen? Was it instant? Was it bouncing? Was it slow? These all mean different things.

From there, you look at specifics for each of those keywords varying with what you noticed in the chart. Different types of problems have different keyword movement. For example, if your keyword movement is suggestive of a penalty, then you need to explore the causes of penalties, such as overoptimzation, spammy backlinks, and keyword stuffing. etc.

Each keyword should be handled individually not "we're ranking for fewer keywords."

If you have other problems, like pages that are not indexed anymore, that is a different problem.

If you have other problems, like an overall decline in authority, that is a different problem, and that would be shown differently on the SERP charts.

If you are not tracking your SERPs, btw, daily for each keyword, you need to commence, now. If your SERP tracker shows weekly but not daily, get a different one. If your SERP tracker doesn't show a chart yet shows a table, get a different one.
