While the Himalayan is certainly a great buy. There are also other options you could look at.

Versys 650 - around 8-10 lakhs
One of the most refined engines beautiful to look at and at your size you won’t look out of place. Only thing is Kawasaki service and maintainence is expensive.

There’s also the Kawasaki Vulcan around 9. But not seen too many on the road or ridden it to know if it is good.


Honda NX500 around 7 ex showroom. Feels like too much money for a 500 but is an excellent bike and Honda engines are ever reliable. But power delivery is very linear so you if you want something more exciting might not enjoy it.

Benelli trk 502. Excellent bike good engine. Sounds great and is quite refined. Only draw back is you may or may not have a very accessible service center.

Triumph trident around 9 to 10 lakhs ex-Showroom. Excellent engine reliable. But might look small in you.
Triumph speeding - again excellent engine and beautiful bike. But is almost 10 exshowroom.

The super meteor 650 around 4.5 ex showroom. I know you mentioned you don’t want an RE. But the 650 is an excellent engine and will be very familiar to you due to the similarity to thunderbird in terms of seating.


While I’ve only listed options for a large set person. There are a lot more options like CF moto and moto morini. All of which I have never ridden and not even see on the road. So I won’t recommend. Tastes are very subjective. So I’d suggest test drive all and see where you feel comfortable and take a pick. What others might find comfortable might not work for you. Everyone is different.

That being said. Considering you are only using for weekend and long rides one or two things you might have to consider is. Are you ok with high maintenance cost even though the bike is just sitting in one place throughout the week. A lot of people who buy superbikes or big bikes realise it’s a waste or too much for them and sell it. Which is why you have so many good bikes in the secondhand market. If you get the RE compared to the others that cost might come down. But if you are ok with it. Def go for the big bikes. They’re a great experience.

You might also want to consider the second hand market and go for something post 2020. You should be able to get a good deal for some of the above bikes or even better and bigger bikes within your budget.

Either way nothing substitutes how you feel when you ride a bike. Test drive all and take your time. Don’t be in a rush. Happy riding
