We faced an issue with the Harithakarmasena team some time ago. If we're expected to hand over plastics to them on a silver platter, why should we even bother? We chose to burn them in our compound instead. This led to them escalating the matter up their hierarchy.

Following this, my father questioned the legality of the Rs. 50 fee they collect. It turns out that if this fee is legally challenged, the government would need to justify its purpose and account for it as tax, which isn't currently the case. Instead, this amount is being funneled directly to the Harithakarmasena workers—most of whom are allegedly affiliated with the ruling party—bypassing official tax routes. This arrangement ensures they receive the money without any accountability. Most people are unaware of this setup and therefore don’t question it.

Your neighbors seem well aware of the situation, which might explain why the Harithakarmasena member or their higher-ups avoid provoking them. If this issue were taken to court, the Harithakarmasena fees would have to be routed through proper tax channels. As a result, the workers might face delays in receiving their salaries or, in some cases, might not receive them at all. This could ultimately disrupt the functioning of Harithakarmasena and stop them from coming altogether.

And as for the plastic burning, if they decide to burn it on their land, they simply can do it. If it's not creating any issues, you could just avoid it. Else tell them to do so when you are not in your home.
