All these are my personal experiences and from I guess 2022 I have always stayed home with friends or family made home cooked food got the booze early to avoid the rampage outside.

There is a help option in uber. In the help section you can select the option that tells you have charged more than the estimated fare. They check it in real time and refund the difference amount to original payment method if you paid online. If it's cash you will get it as uber credits. It worked whenever I see a fare difference from estimated and final.
