If I'm not wrong they might not be linked to any "demat" account. Since the concept of "Demat" was to dematerilaize the physical stock certificate.

Initially done by brokers and now can be owned by anyone through a DP account.

However, a physical certificate could have also be converted to a demat form..but I doubt in your case it might have been done.

There are ways to liquidate a physical stock certificate either directly with the company or with a reliable broker..not sure how exactly though..
