But Chembur is a fairly large area, if you aren't living within walking distance of the office - you can expect to spend about Rs.200 per day on autos. That's about 4.5k. Electricity and maid (if you keep one), will set you back by another 2-3k min. You'd have 20-23k left for food and other misc.

The cheapest home delivery meals or tiffin is Rs.200 per meal. If you cook it can be 1/4 that cost. Eating out for all meals would set you back by a minimum 15k. If you cook, it might cost you 3-4k. Hiring a cook between you and flatmates would usually be total of 4-5k pm for all meals plus 3-4k for supplies.

Actually this lead to scrutiny where the government has now warned rent a cab operators to not have their vehicles illegally stored and operated at unauthorised locations like airports and railways stations, or face suspension or cancellation of licenses. They're to operate only from designated registered areas and from officially registered offices.

The rental vehicles you posted about were actually illegally being handed over to tourists. Unfortunately the laws are not very clear on the matter, but it's definitely clear that operators are not allowed to park rental cars on premises of any major airport or railway station in the country unless the rental company has an office at the airport.
