I am currently backtesting a lot of risk management strategies and exit strategies. For educational purposes mostly.

Let me preface things with that having a SL at all is not always a good idea. There are many strategies where you are better off without a SL. But there are strategies where SL makes sense. And it might even make sense to move these strategies for some of them.

However, moving the SL to break even is probably not optimal. Exiting your positions through a SL is hardly optimal, usually. It seems to be superior, in many cases, to close positions through limit orders instead of moving the SL up. It all depends on the specific circumstances, though.
