Student wellness centre
The way I see it, if for a moment we assume any mental health issue to be similar to common cold, there would be 2 types of medicines. One type would be to actively kill the germs, and contain its spread, etc and the other is to kill the symptoms and improve the tolerance of the person.
Now IITB gives no fuck about working on the 1st kind of medicine, apart from a very few appreciable moves like removing the branch change policy.
SWC is the 2nd kind, they have a couple of therapists and they do insti wide events to spread awareness, ect. But, I feel that the actual impact they create are through 1-1 therapy sessions. Having said that there are a few operational issues here(from personal experience):
1. They don't have sufficient therapists, so the usual waiting time is 2-2.5 weeks to get a session.
2. They also try to get rid of the student as soon as they show the slightest sign of getting better, due to same reason as above.
3. There are some privacy issues as the waiting area is common, so people accidentally find out you are getting therapy. I had a friend who paid 800rs/session to go to an outside therapist due to this issue.
4. There have been a few cases where swc has been hesistant to give out anti-anxiety pills, etc even when the situation deemed the use.
Apart from all this, there is also a huge stigma even in iitb towards going to a therapist. People also do not know how severe your issue has to be to seek professional help, this makes many ppl be very hesitant.
Even with all these issues, swc does as much justice as possible to everyone who reaches out. I owe a big chunk of my mental peace to them.
SWC recently also announced a program where you can go to some fixed outside hospitals and see a therapist, and they would reimburse you. But there is some cap on the amt of times you can use this service.
I hope this helps your work. If you need anything else feel free to dm. -

"In 1981...West Bengal's per capita income was 16% higher than Karnataka's. In 2021, Karnataka's per capita income was 111% higher than that of West Bengal"
I guess it is due to the protests against computers in bengal that time. And companies left for Karnataka leaving bengal. Many IT companies who wanted to work in Bengal then left to Karnataka too as their government welcomed IT companies. -
