    The trick is to ask them something in English or reply in English even if they ask in Hindi. Once you got that impression going, switch to Assamese. I agree some of them have brainless elitism and judge people based on appearance and speech.

    Also kaji nemu and bhoot jolokia are a must once you return from home.

    Bengal has one of the best primary education, safety for women, hospitals & our farmers don't commit suicide. We don't kill people in the name of caste & religion. Roads bridges all painted blue & white (trip to Assam) it entered Assam it was wilderness even train tracks are not maintained. Because of Communist 34 rule we lost money. Hopefully we will get back the money soon. People just avoid these BIG IDEOLOGY parties of Left & Right. After winning elections they go back to ideology and not people's problems.
