Quality of life: Meh. Everyone’s greedy af and spending any amount of money won’t guarantee you quality, be it food, products, people, services.

We live in 2BHK society rental, so security is good. Comfortable as well. Rent is off the charts, obviously. We pay ₹5K to the maid, she’ll still make a face for any extra work. Cooks who have no idea how to cook, ask for ₹6K. Tried atleast 7 in 2 years!

Going to a restaurant— won’t guarantee good, hygienic or decent food. Paying ₹5K bill won’t guarantee quantity. The only exception is one local South Indian joint. Their consistency has been amazing (₹240 for 2)!

Book intercity travel, easy ₹20K. Driver will still treat you like shit. Pay ₹800 for 8kms in Uber premiere, and the car may or may not be clean. Only guarantee is the driver will speak loudly on his phone.

Order from restaurants— gourmet or normal, it won’t guarantee food quality or quantity. Only thing predictable is Swiggy delivery time. ₹10 platform fee seems worth it.

Pay a premium on Urban company and it may or may not turn out good. Booked Luxe for the first time and she ruined my skin. Went to a Lakme salon, they had no idea how to treat curls.

Let’s talk medical. Spent ₹10K in MRI and CT only to be given pain killers and a gel. The doctor had us convinced I might need surgery. Brother on dialysis, the rick guy stopped at the exit gate, politely asked him to drop at the entrance since bhai couldn’t walk— he went on a non-Kannada, Northies go back rant. It took locals and hospital staff who requested on our behalf to do his duty and be human. Paid ₹80 + he asked for ₹20 more. Feels expensive when you’re treated like shit.

Good thing is air quality, opportunities, convenience and a good set of friends.

But, it’s all a lottery at this point.

And you don’t want “luck” when you pay premiums and are in the highest tax slab of the country. You want guaranteed, quality services. So, yes life is expensive here.
