Civic Compass - Bengaluru. Seeking Community Participation

Hi, I’m part of a group that came together on r/bangalore; we believe that while we cannot change government apathy, it is within our ambit to make small efforts to improve the citizen experience. More about us: [Zen Citizen](https://zencitizen.in/). Our latest effort is a tool to help citizens identify essential details like their BBMP ward, sub-division, zone, district revenue office, closest sub-registrar office, police jurisdiction station, constituencies, etc. Input your location and get the corresponding information. (If you think this type of information is easy to find, check out the[ challenges...

The city is in desperate need of third spaces

I left my house yesterday, 25 December, to do some shopping for an event coming soon. Big mistake. I was on road for more than 4 hours. The roads to Phoenix Mall of Asia were jammed and when I backed out of the area to travel elsewhere like Orion Mall, it was horrendous. The amount of people in the mall was insane. Every floor was overflowing with people, washroom queues took more than half an hour and the outer open space was taken up by a concert and more...

    Spreading love beyond boundaries

In a time when divisions often overshadow unity, I want to share something beautiful that touched my heart. This Christmas, I celebrated the holiday with my Christian friends in Bangalore. Amidst the laughter, joy, and the warmth of friendship, we also exchanged gifts as part of a Secret Santa tradition. To my surprise, one of the gifts I received from a dear Christian friend was the book “Bhagavad Gita As It Is”. It was a moment that reminded me of the true essence of festivals—not about religion, but about...

    A Cubbon Park meet-up - Sharing & Processing Change

Please DM me if you would like to participate. I’m a facilitator who designs life experiences. I’ve also been working in the climate change space for a bit. The rate of ecological change has become incredibly faster. Life 10 years ago has disappeared, leaving us to cope with a ton of unprocessed grief that is repressed to make space for coping with rapid change. So, on 4th Jan, I’m inviting you to come as part of a sharing circle. Stories about buildings, roads, trees, eating fruit, food and everything...

Saw a Woman get harrased by miscreants in broad daylight in Byrathi

I was driving towards Mallika biryani in Byrathi. Near Shoba supermarket, three chappri like looking men who were riding a Dio, slowed down, came close to a woman who just sat on her scooter. The guy who was in the back touched her hair, drove away and made some signs and comments at her! I coudnt catch the plates nor I have a dash cam right now. Byrathi is infested with lowlife criminal gangs. There are thugs, murderers rapists in the making there. I've seen three disturbing incidents like...

    Bangalore traffic is THAT bad

I am a local and I’ve always defended Bangalore infrastructure whenever someone lashed out at it. I thought while it had its flaws, people were probably exaggerating how bad it truly was. Today I found that isn’t the case. I had a movie at phoenix market city at 7:45, left my house at 6:15. For reference, my house is 3.5km away from phoenix market city. We did not reach the mall even by 9:45, which was when the movie ended and chose to turn back home and leave. And...

    Swiggy/Zomato riders on Yulu

I’m so done with these food delivery guys zipping around on their Yulu bikes! In just 10 minutes of driving home today, I almost crashed into two of them. These bikes don’t have any proper safety features, no indicators, and the riders act like no one else exists on the road. They randomly turn, stop right in the middle of the street, or just pop out of nowhere! There seriously needs to be some rules to control this mess. As if dealing with auto drivers in this city wasn’t...

Restaurants Using Plastic Wrappers for Steaming Hot Idlis

I recently noticed something really concerning at a local restaurant. They were steaming hot idlis wrapped in plastic! I’m not sure if they’re doing it to keep the shape intact or for convenience, but it feels so wrong on so many levels. First off, isn’t this unsafe? Plastic and heat don’t mix well — I can’t imagine the chemicals it might release into the food. Secondly, it’s just unnecessary! Idlis have been steamed perfectly fine for generations without using plastic. I love eating idlis, but this practice has made...

    Frustrated with behaviour of transgenders

I’m really frustrated and angry about a recurring issue in Bengaluru. There are some transgender individuals who randomly board trains or walk into restaurants and start asking for money. What’s worse is that they don’t even ask properly — they just put their hands into people’s pockets without permission and take whatever money they find. It’s becoming such a regular thing that, every day on my way to work, I have to deal with them coming toward me on the street. I feel so uncomfortable that I’ve started pretending...

Why is there so much traffic near Rajajinagar-Yeshwanthpur- mattikere road today?

I’m a frequent traveler of the Yeshwanthpur to Yelahanka route but never have I seen SO much traffic in my life. I assumed there’s something happened for the insane traffic today. Ive had a bad day today and I’ve been stuck on the same flyover for over 30 mins and it’s driving me insane. I’ve been in Bangalore all my life as much as I love the city the traffic makes me lose my shit. Looks like the coming years will be much worse EDIT: I just wasted two...

Traffic is increasing and it's concerning 😟

Today at around 6:15 I reached the yeshwantpur market in my car and it took me 1 hour to reach the yeshwantpur bus stand. I was dropping my mother to her bus which leaves at 7 from the same bus stand. I had to ask my uncle to hold the car and in mid traffic we unloaded my mom's luggage and had to run to the bus stand with her and hold 2 suitcases with me. And this traffic is spread in all directions. From orion mall, from mathikare,...

    Price mismatch scam

This is third time this is happening with me in super market. (Not in the same one) I went to this newly opened super market to buy things. I was trying to buy refine oil for which the price tag shown in the mart was 147 and during the bill generation it showed 163. When i confronted the manager he just asked the cashier to return the remaining amount. He didn’t even take the tag out. I would have attached the images but it’s not allowed here. Please always...

Setting up a tourist taxi business

Setting up a tourist taxi service I have a desire to set up a tourist taxi service as a side hustle. The aim is two fold - generate side income beyond my regular job - provide employment to people - be able to provide a service to society that is helpful to people I know this is a kind of commodity market but today the offering is completely downmarket with the aim to squeeze the maximum profit. BOOMER feels? Wait for it...

Since I’m not Santa, here’s a nostalgic trip instead of gifts. 1. 2 Rs Parle-G biscuits are now 5 Rs (I mean the quantity) 2. 5 Rs Dairy Milk used to feel like luxury with that gold wrapper—now even silk doesn’t get the same treatment. 3. Remember when 20 Rs was enough for a plate of chat? Now you need at least 50. 4. Golgappa at 10 Rs per plate? Gone are those goli days 5. Shakalaka Boom Boom pencils with LED lights? Lost in dark 6. School days...

Is it just me or does VAC actually make traffic worse somehow?

As the title says - I'm not sure this is helping decongest. Feel like the entire Jayanagar, JP Nagar and Vega city stretch is way more congested. Is there any data on how these VAC signals are performing?
