How much you are planning to spend on wedding. **Hello, People of Reddit!** I don’t want to generalize, but I’m really curious to hear your thoughts on how different cultures, societies, and monetary statuses influence a Hindu wedding in India. Specifically, I’m interested in understanding how various factors affect wedding spending from the male perspective. For example, let’s say I’m from East India, and I have a net worth of around ₹50 lakhs. Here’s roughly how I would break down wedding expenses: 1. **Photography** – ₹2L 2. **Jewellery** – ₹4L 3. **Clothing** – ₹1L 4. **Ceremonies (Turmeric, Songs,... 3 0 replies
Help me with household help/maid situation. Am I doing something wrong? I am generally very understanding and patient with everyone, and it takes a lot to make me angry or frustrated. However, when it comes to household help lying, I almost lose my calm. I feel I can handle situations diplomatically and get the work done, but I often choose to fire them because I don’t want to deal with this attitude repeatedly in the future. I see it as a pattern that will keep popping up, and I want to avoid any drama. A friend suggested I should be... 1 0 replies

Should Hindu marriage act require explicit consent from both parties prior to marriage from a legal perspective? In Hinduism, marriage is regarded as a sacred union of souls that extends across multiple lifetimes. The marriage is solemnized by a priest through a ceremony that involves taking seven vows. However, these vows hold no legal significance under the Hindu Marriage Act, which instead establishes a distinct set of rights and responsibilities — a framework designed primarily to protect women and children. Despite this, the vows taken during the marriage ceremony do not align with the legal obligations outlined in the Act. I believe this disconnect between cultural... 4 0 replies
Is the preference to have a male-child, done out of love? I don't think so, The preference for having kids continuously until a male-child is born is **not** driven out of love. It is driven by something much worse, dependency. Before, even the child is born the fate is decided for him that he will becomes this, he will earn this much. Have seen so many people here and on other subreddits talking about having kids until male child is born, but they only talk about co-relation and not the causation. 5 0 replies
What budgeting, to-do list, habit-tracking, organisation and scheduling apps have you guys installed on your phones? Have they made a difference in your life? So, I have been using evernote for note-taking, and google calender for scheduling every little thing like a bullet journal. It has made a huge difference in my life in terms of organisation. School didn't allow phones, so it became hard to fill up the school almanac with that meagre little calander space they provided. These apps with more or less unlimited space to write in your day with the option of activating alarms for an event, have been a gamechanger, and now I see google has integrated some... 1 0 replies

Ncert cutting down book costs seems like a joke Hardly any private school uses NCERT books to teach. They make us parents buy expensive books from private publishers. In the name of NCERT, they would ask kids to buy a book or two but NEVER use it. This news seems like a joke. Why doesn't the government do anything to curb these schools' arbitrariness? They do whatever they please be it expensive books, exorbitant admission fees or constant fee hikes! Even the bus charges fee for full 12 months, even though kids have holidays in summers and winters.... 1 0 replies
