Being feminist does not automatically mean you take up the onus of liberating the whole country. It is speaking up and addressing the issues you see around you. There are many NGOs which solely focus on the issues you mentioned, educating and empowering girls and women. It is why there exists a basic awareness about the importance of education and earning in rural areas. It is why more girls go to school now than say 20 years ago, it is why more women work in organised sectors, why more women work in almost all fields.


Feminism isn't a magic wand which can be waved across the country to make it progressive, especially when religion and caste based biases exist alongside gender based discrimination. It's slow and systemic and in every generation, all kinds of women speaking up about the issues they face have driven us one inch ahead. Putting it into boxes like oh the urban woman is pseudo feminist and the rural woman is helpless only contributes to slowing changes down, feminism is for everyone. The change is slow, but the change is there. And changes will keep coming till we are all in better places. And feminism is not just about educating women. Women are very aware of injustices they see in their daily lives. It's also about making men see that it's not out to get y'all, and women being socially equal (yes including THE CHOICE to consume alcohol) is not something that affects your life.
