I feel like Rohit will not resign because he already resigned from T20s earlier this year and if resigns from Tests too, he only has ODIs left, which is a dead format (we only played 3 ODIs this year and apart from the England series and CT, not much more is scheduled in 2025 either). So if he remains a ODI-only player, he'll probably end up playing 5-10 matches a year, in which case he might as well retire from international cricket altogether.

I feel like he will go to play the Sydney test and will wait for the long gap between then and the England tour to let BCCI relieve him off his duties as captain. This way he can still somehow continue on as a batsman and perhaps even be included in the squad to the england series if he performas well in CT.

People who keep comparing to Dhoni saying how Dhoni retired from Tests after a couple of defeats should keep in mind that after Dhoni retired from tests he went on to play 5 years of ODI and T20 cricket for India, which is no longer an option for Rohit.
