Does he have any regular investments? I'm going to get a lot of downvotes for saying this on a crypto sub, but crypto should not be your primary investment. It's way too volatile. Also, a Roth IRA is tax advantaged while any crypto gains are not, so he should always be taking advantage of that. Someone that has put most of their money in conventional investments and dollar cost averaged a smaller portion of their investment money into BTC over the past decade is sitting pretty right now. At $104k per BTC right now, it would need to go up to $208k for that $1000 to become $2000. That's asking BTC to do a LOT of work. If this was the start of a long term investment strategy scenario, like "I'm 20 years old and maxing out my tax advantaged accounts, have my debt under control and plan on buying $500 BTC a month until retirement" than hell yeah, go for it. But a guy who's probably my age or older who probably doesn't have a ton of cash if he's only looking to invest $500-1000? Hell no.
