She is relatively more famous(not infamous) than any other Indian news person. She is articulate & concise which ensureS her points get across easily. Anything that pushes certain point of view is propaganda, in that sense she is pushing propaganda but it is ours. Most of her stories are from Indian world views. It helps to shape favorable opinions among western people. Even if you see international news media, when it come to international affairs they always push their government propaganda be it CNN or BBC.

The riots you talked about are mostly politically inspired. You would rarely find the urban middle class indulging in such violence. The urban middle class doesn't really care about people being agnostic or atheist as the majority of them only follow the cultural aspects of religion without getting into the spiritual part of the religion. Also in my limited experience, the people from minority religion are much more religious than the Hindus.
