I'm alarmed, I read all these comments and I have made every single one of the mistakes and faced the consequences, although I was very lucky everytime.

I think it is more about the collective mindset of our population. Direct tax payers account to around 2% of our total population who are also vocal and care about jobs, economy, inflation, GDP, growth rate etc.

Rest accounts to a mix of farmers, unorganised business owners, daily wage earners and BPL people. For them, 500 units of free electricity, direct cash benefits, subsidies and freebies matters a lot as it has a substantial impact on their day to day life. They also vote based on caste and religion.

So politicians have understood the game where they have realised who their actual vote bank is and how to get their votes. On a macroscopic level, it makes more sense for them to keep their vote bank poor and hungry, divide them based on religion and caste, keep on feeding them freebies and stay in power as long as they can. Opposition has also realised this and they are also going on this extreme and are quite vocal about it. They'd keep on exploiting the tax paying minority to feed their vote bank.

I don't see our country as a developed nation until we break this vicious cycle. It would take major reforms and generations to bring the non (direct) tax paying majority to tax paying majority.

So the only option left for tax paying minority is to leave this country for a better developed place and comeback whenever our country breaks this cycle and direct tax payers become more than 50 percent of our total population.
