TLDR: Peace of mind thing, maintenance will always be more expensive than new but pre-owned cars will allow you to enjoy a higher category of cars (atleast that's my use case)

Long post - I'm on my second used car now. Bought a 2014 VW vento Highline in 2022 and bought a 2013 W204 Mercedes C250 in 2024. Here's what I learned:
1. Pre-owned cars give you the amazing opportunity to buy above your means. If you're okay with a slightly used, slightly driven car then it opens a world of opportunities for you to enjoy much better cars then you could enjoy new for the same money.
2. Ownership is easy, maintenance is not: the VW Vento was my first car. A very simple thing I've learned and follow as a mantra - if you buy a pre-owned car always set aside some extra money over the cost of buying the car which you'll use to sort out minor maintenance issues - the first year will be expensive maintenance wise.
3. Why do people recommend buying new cars - it's a peace of mind thing, fewer things will go wrong and you can always head to the showroom to sort it out. Trust also is a factor when buying.
4. I had the unique advantage of having great relations with trusted mechanics in the 2 cities I spend the most time in which let me avoid the hefty charges that VW and Merc charge at service centres. For Eg: I had an issue with the steering rack and axle of the car, VW quoted 65k to resolve it, was resolved with my mechanic for 20k. Of you can sort out maintenance pre-owned cars will be good.

That being said, my current car the Merc, is an absolute experiment. I have never owned a luxury car in my life and it's been less than a year since I've owned the car. There's no denying the fact that the car is 11 years old so there are a lot of risks but the W204 is literally my favorite generation and I decided to pull the trigger to see if it's actually even possible to own a car like this. I was able to find an insanely well maintained super low mileage car but things do go wrong. Maintenance up until now has been pretty manageable and the car has been the stuff of dreams. Let's hope for the best in the future!

I have pad 6 and this has the same display but with more resolution. The only reason i bought it was for movies and clash of clans, but the display contrast is horrible if you are watching anything with HDR or dolby vision the black bars on top & bottom no longer stay black they turn grey because of bright backlight.
