Your wife doesn’t sound like she wants to work. At the very least, she does not sound like a reliable employee/worker. Maybe it’s to do with not finding the right profession or position that will keep her focused? Either way, it sounds like there is something else going on here so best to address that before continuing with more interviews and getting frustrated. Also, while it’s nice that you want to help your wife, you seem to be the one pushing here, and it’s not sustainable in the sense that if she gets a job, she is the one who will be doing the work - you cannot do it for her. So I would suggest having a detailed and honest conversation about this because you both need to be on the same page.

Re childcare - if they were asking re children just because she’s a woman, that’s different, but objectively speaking they may not be. The question doesn’t seem unreasonable simply because a) she has chosen to be a stay at home mother and the shift to working full time is a significant one and not without its difficulties (understandably); and b) she otherwise doesn’t have a solid career arc before kids so it’s reasonable that a prospective employer wants to satisfy themselves that childcare won’t be an impediment to her being a reliable worker and keeping regular office hours. So the best answer to this is the truth. Hopefully, your childcare solution will allow her to do the job without serious disruption. If that is not the case, or between the two of you, you don’t want to spend that amount of time away from the kids, then one or both of you may need to focus on jobs that have more flexible working hours.
