Crazy to me to see family and friends fall to this. I used to look down on populaces that fell for the likes of Maduro, Hitler, Putin, and others. I thought it was just pure ignorance or hate. Surely that couldn’t happen here. We’re reasonable people with access to information and all the history texts in the world to see that coming.

But that’s not the whole story. It really creeps in when people run out of options. When the wealth gap gets so huge that people feel powerless like they have no control over their own life. That’s why some people are willing to completely blow up their own lives and the lives of others just for something different. Periods of authoritarianism are almost always preceded by economic hardships. That’s why it’s so easy for someone to just swoop in and tell people all their dreams will come true if they just vote for them.

Democrats used to be about change, but not anymore. Now voting democrat just means more of the same shit. And they wonder why organic enthusiasm for the party is dead.
