Like you said, Onam brings in a lot of 'celebration vibes' and that period has the most sales and offers by companies and shopping and consumption is more compared to the rest of the year. (Similar to black friday sales in the West).

I think, the recent emergence of a lot of bakeries and F&B related businesses (mostly into gourmet and premium categories) offering Christmas related products has an influence in this rather new trend. Shopping for Christmas aesthetics and sharing it online is something that came up in the recent few years. (Like Mather bazaar in Marine drive being a instagram hotspot)
