Traditional media has just lost a huge amount of credibility. Many of the most prominent television news outlets were dedicated to both-sidesing everything for the sake of ratings. I’m no fan of her, but the amount of scrutiny Harris received compared to Trump during the election was fucking insane; they were criticising her for minute details of her economic plans while Trump was openly talking about destroying the country for hate and profit. They sane-washed him and normalized his fascist rhetoric.

Meanwhile, a lot of prominent print media has immediately bent the knee under pressure of their billionaire owners. Simply stated, it’s become impossible to ignore the extent to which US traditional media has been captured by right wing, corporate, and billionaire interests.

And bluntly, I find myself feeling simply that… evil won. The US has failed in a huge and probably unrecoverable way. Some last veil of ignorance has been pulled from my eyes, and now I can’t unsee how corrupt things have become, how utterly unaccountable the rich and powerful have become, how extensive and inbuilt the exploitation has become. The US suddenly feels like a foreign and hostile land. All that remains now is to try to weather the storm, or maybe look for better shores.
