Anna University campus as 7 gates. what i heard in the news is he entered the campus by jumping a compound wall near adyar river/slum area probably made up store he might have entered through the one of 7 gates. Jumping the compound wall isn't unusuall quite a few students do that to visit Koturpuram. Guindy campus is like open campus people can easly enter inside during working hours and security rarely check the people (i guess they have strick security check for non-working hour entry). i don't expect any political backing in this case. Previously he had a sexual harassment case filed fromt the campus and you know how system works in our country. He might be friendly with some security personal to enter the campus.

Since , I have someone close to the University still , what I hear is beyond shocking.

* Seems the student complained to the internal committee first but they seem to have tried to brush it off in the name of the college name and so on.

* The girl's father gave her all the confidence and made her complain to the police. He gave the confidence that he can move her abroad for studies and she should not worry about it.

* You know what , police tried to first negotiate with the girl - again and attempt to stop this from becoming an issue. But since she was confident, they had to take the complaint.

* The girl wrote one exam after this incident with all the pain she was going through .

* The boyfriend tried to do whatever he could do to get rid off the guy from her - by throwing stones and all but he couldn't it seems.

* The perpetrator seems to someone close inside the campus - some say one of his 3 wife's but idk.

* My maid, once she first saw his photo she told that he is known guy in local party circle.

* There are lot of incidents like this happen but college almost all the time covered it up.

* Last time when the same guy got caught inside the campus acting like a police !!, students beat him up and handed him over but police put a less crime case and let him go. - public information

* The estate office is the one who should be first asked why the CCTV isnt working - but believe me the professor taking care of the estate office could not do more than what he was doing now. - they were busy this morning (26/12) to fix this .

* University is total fucked up - be it poor roads , stray dogs , almost 70% of the street lights either not working or they haven't switched it ON - this is still the case on 26/12/2024

* Girls are furious about the 6:30 curfew. Instead of making a safe environment, they are punishing the girls .

* Believe it or not, they increased the security in the last couple of months and even I faced difficulties to get in and out using the kotturpuram gate itself everyday. - but believe me these security folks are clueless on what to do . Today after all these, I was able to get in and out with no questions asked. There were police , security but I didn't have to roll my windows down to answer , nobody asked who am I - but honestly I was prepared to answer both the times I went in - but I was surprised. - may be they thought the bad guy doesn't come through gate or the bad guy doesn't come in car ? Wtf man ?

My piece of advice:

* Spend some money and keep the college campus well lit. There are times I looked up to the college .

* Change the security company - challenge all the visitors (including me) , get the fucking CCTV back up and running.

* Make the girls empowered by encouraging them to speak up when something like this happen - this doesn't need money.

* To the girls including my close ones - try to be safe.

When I was around 9 or 10, a kid I knew in Sunday school had this short drawing book. Each page had a hand drawn picture of himself and other girls in *peculiar* poses. The book started with kissing, then went really wild. I knew what it was, so did the other kids (there were plenty of magazines, courtesy of that weird family member). All this time, he had this big grin on his face. Then there were cases of making out behind empty classrooms, and the priests got mad enough that he had to announce it during idayalekanam.

This however was more than 20 years ago. Before social media, when "entertainment" was at internet cafes. I don't find this surprising OP because the people I know are pretty used to this. In future however, I would keep my distance if I were you.
