I hypothesised a walkable city and yesterday just as an experiment tried to walk from ITC Kohinoor to nearby places in Knowledge City, Dallas Center, T-Hub, IKEA. While the footpaths did exist, as a pedestrian I had to take long routes around massive buildings as these had no public pedestrian access. Even in many of the IT parks with restaurants and public spaces, the access control is so tight you can enter and exit only from a single location/gate. The western part of the city especially around IKEA to Inorbit region, is shared across social media as one of the highlights of Hyderabad’s development. But how accessible are these to pedestrians, highly questionable, India needs a lot of public infrastructure including walkable streets, public transport, and accessible green spaces. Unfortunately the way our cities are being developed by the elected representatives combined with our infatuation with owing bigger cars, I am not too optimistic for public spaces in the country, gated communities are a prime example of creating bubbles of access controlled public spaces. I sincerely hope we/government will some day realise the need and impact of walkable cities and respecting public infrastructure.

Where do you live? In my local (Malappuram), we got help from the Pain and Palliative Care Society (PPCS).
My mom and her sisters took care of my grandmother on a rotational basis, and we managed most of the support ourselves.

Even so, the PPCS team visited every weekend to check on her health and offered to arrange a caretaker if we ever felt exhausted. I suggest checking if a similar society or NGO exists in your area. You could also ask your ward member about any government support available. If no such support exists, they might still be able to direct you to resources that could help.
