If Barak Valley was a separate state of its own, then I feel the situation would have been different but mind you I am not saying this with a "seperatist" mindset.

Assam has always faced many obstacles with its language identity. Bengali was forced upon us by the colonizers. We had a "Bhaxa Andolan", we had to fight for our own mother tongue. So when a community that stays in a state called Assam, calls it their own state, where the majority speaks Assamese (the state language) and people of that state have fought so very hard to protect this language, but still this community does not learn or communicate in this language and completely disregards it, how can they demand any kind of respect at all.

Sylhetis have been living in Assam and cannot sing or understand the State Song "O Mur Apunar Dekh". They do not understand the songs of Bhupen Hazarika or grasp the essence of Laxminath Bezbarua's works... They alienated themselves into their three districts, not knowing about Assam's culture apart from their own.

Discrimination is wrong and I agree, even if I didn't our constitution says any form of Discrimination is wrong. But if you are talking about respect, you will have to respect the state, it's language, it's culture and only then the respect would be reciprocated to you.

And I know some people in Barak Valley can speak and understand Assamese. They respect and know about the Assamese Culture. But until a person from Dibrugarh or Guwahati or Goalpara can go to Silchar and converse in Assamese with the locals, this animosity is unlikely to be resolved.

It was, is and always will be about our Matri Bhaxa Axomiya.

You know u can drive around till Thursday and then drop it. Honda is reliable they will do it. But I wud still keep it till Thursday.
