I think I can answer this as my uncle (dad’s elder brother) is one of those affluent people. Basically he retired as director of one of India’s biggest conglomerates, after having worked for about 40 years there. He also married rich as his wife’s inheritance was about 25 crores in the 1980s. Her grandad started a very popular Indian bank.

Anyway. He has three children, two of them are American citizens, live there. He has bought both of them houses in the USA. The third child lives with them.

Basically they have a bunch of houses around Bangalore but their base is outside of the city. They have a massive mansion with a fruit orchard and a 9 hole golf course with a driveway. Marble Statues flown in from Italy etc.

They travel quite often. To Europe, the USA etc. they wanted to get citizenship in Portugal and open a resort there but backed out because of some issues.

They can afford citizenship anywhere but in India. They have a couple of drivers, a cook, a Gardner, security guy etc etc. so it makes more sense for them here.

They don’t have any fancy cars. Just a merc and a couple of innovas. And whenever they come to town to meet friends, relatives or go out for dinner, they stay in one of the houses in the city.

My uncle loves playing golf so he plays golf with all the bigwigs, drinks and eats only veg food. If you met him at a restaurant, you’ll probably think he’s middle management at an accounting firm.

So yeah.
