As an engineer who has a couple of close non technical friends who are building tech products using cursor and replit and embarking on their solo foundership journeys, I wouldn’t join them without equal equity. Believe me, I have seen the code, it works but it’s messy, buggy and lacks simple best practices.

If they really want me to join them and set the startup for success, a product rewrite is a must. I don’t want to waste my time or theirs trying to fix something that is built on a lot of wrong foundations to start with. Beside, in most cases, it’s going to be even faster to rewrite the product than trying to fix whatever devilish spaghetti code cursor put out.

My two cents: use cursor to validate your idea and its market. Cursor doesn’t give you a cheat code to play the system and downplay what a strong tech cofounder provides.

If you want to try upgrading to Ventura or Sonoma, 1st **make a full backup** with Time Machine and Carbon Copy Cloner / SuperDuper to external drive / NAS.

Then download the full installer, make a bootable USB (SD card is good for this) and install to **external SSD**.

Use Migration Assistant to pull your profile over after the install finishes and you reboot from the external.

Run from external SSD for at least a week. If the upgrade doesn't work for you, shut down + unplug SSD and boot from internal storage - everything will be as you left it.

If things are running fine, you can upgrade your internal storage with CCC/SD and if necessary, re-use the full installer.
