Contrary to what the anti-reservation brigade believes, abolishing reservation will indeed promote "merit" but the output/impact won't be any different from now. India simply doesn't respect merit. Consider the current stipends of PhDs, facilities for meritorious athletes or IAS officers who stand against the political system that is run by the most non-meritorious people. Everywhere you look, you'll see merit getting thrashed and spat out. Brain drain will remain the same if not increase.

So tell your little bro, the removal of reservation is not really worth it. Instead it should be tightly monitored, regulated and kept away from politicisation (highly unlikely).

Reservation is not a bad thing, it is sort of an equalizer that tends to redistribute the opportunity that was stolen from women and lower caste people for hundreds of years. Yes, it should be extended to economically weaker sections as well.
