Well, it’s not his fault that people rarely remember the horrendous violence that took place during the Partition in 1947. It is by design that people are made to forget that critical juncture in India’s history. Gandhi was very much alive during that time and made significant efforts during the Partition violence, visiting Noakhali and other places as part of his peace initiatives.

It's the same in other hinduised states. In Manipur, Meiteis and Bamons used to consider tribals as unclean because they ate pork while they only ate fish.
